About Sorrento and its Surroundings

A Great Place to Visit…

The town of Sorrento overlooks the Bay of Naples and is surrounded by breathtaking landscapes with mountains, citrus groves, olive groves and farmlands as a backdrop to the town perched on a terrace overlooking the sea. Sorrento has narrow lanes, picturesque balconies, cobbled street and artisan workshops. Though small in size, Sorrento offers numerous places to visit, featuring notable architecture, cafes, restaurants, and shops catering to tourists.

Sorrento, putting their lemon groves to good use, is famous for the production of “limoncello” a digestif made from lemon rinds, alcohol, water and sugar. Further to this, it is renowned for its great craft tradition of inlaid wood, some examples of high value can be admired at the Museo-Bottega della Tarsia Lignea located in an ancient palace of the 18th century in the historical center.

A town of tradition, where combinations of kindness and hospitality are handed down from one generation to the next is an amazing place that will forever be engrained in your memory.

FROM NAPLES BY TRAIN
The most convenient mainline station to arrive at is Naples Stazione Centrale. Below the mainline railway station you will find the Circumvesuviana station. From Stazione Centrale to Sorrento the journey takes just over an hour. The trains run every half-hour, with a few gaps on Sundays and public holidays.
A more expensive alternative is the Campania Express (https://www.napoliunplugged.com/campania-express-tourist-train-to-herculaneum-pompeii-and-sorrento), more comfortable and much quicker as it only stops at the “touristy” stations.

FROM ROME BY TRAIN OR BUS
If you are travelling from Rome, there are frequent trains running to Naples, with journey length and price varying depending on what type of train you take (journeys generally take under 2 hours).
Visit Trenitalia web site at https://www.trenitalia.com/tcom-en for timetable and rate.
An efficient and economical alternative is to take a bus all the way to Sorrento executed by Marozzi Viaggi ( https://www.marozzivt.it/home ).

Local transport in and around Sorrento

The historic centre of Sorrento can be toured on foot. In fact, since much of it is narrow pedestrian lanes, that is the only way to explore thoroughly. For a sightseeing tour (though obviously not down the lanes) there are various options for tourists including a mini-train, a 'tram', and horse-drawn carriages.

Bus tickets are bought in advance, at tabacchi shops, and sometimes bars: look for the black and white 'T' sign outside or for signs advertising bus tickets (biglietti autobus). Not all tabacchi sell tickets, but those close to bus stops are likely to.

Hotel Accommodations

The Conference will be held in the Hilton Sorrento Palace Hotel, a four star hotel considered as one of the best Sorrento hotels in terms of comfort, amazing views, service, and amenities.

This exclusive hotel showcases:

  • bright and modern rooms and suites,
  • outdoor swimming pools and indoor pool,
  • fitness center,
  • rooftop pool
  • Club Lounge with a terrace
  • gorgeous citrus garden.

We recommend that reservations be made as soon as possible, however no later than June 15, to take advantage of the special rate (from Euro 179,00 per night) negotiated for the Conference attendees by filling in the Booking Form to be download HERE

NOTE: We inform you that the Sorrento area is home of more than 100 hotels of different categories.
The Sorrento Tourism web site offer a list of these hotels with the related websites. We advise you to deal directly with the hotel to confirm the price and to get further information.
